National Zoo Welcomes New Giant Pandas

Two Pandas Join from China

The National Zoo in Washington, D.C., is excited to announce the arrival of two new giant pandas from China.

Bao Li, a two-year-old male, and Qing Bao, a two-year-old female, are set to join the zoo's current panda residents, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang. The two pandas were born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China and have been leased to the National Zoo for a period of 10 years.

Bao Li's name means "treasure and energetic" in Mandarin Chinese, while Qing Bao's name means "green and treasure." Once they arrive in Washington, D.C., the two pandas will be quarantined for 30 days before being introduced to the public.

Conclusion

The arrival of Bao Li and Qing Bao is a significant event for the National Zoo and for the conservation of giant pandas. The two pandas will help to raise awareness of this critically endangered species and will provide opportunities for visitors to learn more about pandas and their habitat.
